Rajeshwar Rao Kalakuntla - Front Office Manager

1.    Tell us a little about you

I was born and brought up in India. I obtained a diploma in Hotel Management. Then, I started my career in the hospitality industry through Fortune welcome group of hotels from India. Afterwards, I moved to the Maldives and started working with Lily Beach and Atmosphere Hotel & Resorts. I also worked with Constance in Seychelles. In my free time, I like hiking, climbing and helping others.

2.    What is your role at Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa?

As a Front Office Manager, my role is to be part of the pre-opening team and, one of my aims is to build up a nice team and drive the operations as per the branding guidelines. I’m responsible of the Front Office department, and one of my roles is to ensure that we exceed the guest expectations for the overall Emerald Maldives experience, as well as creating memories that will ensure the guests’ to return to the resort.  

3.    When did you start working in the hospitality industry and why did you choose this career?

I have been working in the Hospitality industry since 2001, in India, Maldives and Seychelles. I have chosen this career because I enjoy travelling and learning different cultures. From my point of view, this is one of the best industries to build a career in and grow further.


4.    Where did you work before Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa? 

I have worked with Atmosphere Hotels and Resorts and my last assignment was with Ozen by Atmosphere as Front Office Manager.


5.    Why did you choose Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa?

Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World, a very prestigious nominee, which gives me the opportunity to improve everyday. This is one of the best resorts in the Maldives because of the excellence in service as well as being set on an island that nature blessed with the good vegetation and by default, the guests will fall in love with the resort. This experience will be definitely added to my career.


6.    What shouldn’t clients miss when they come to Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa?

a)    Solo Traveller and Family

The resort offers a range of activities for either category. From the Emerald Spa with free yoga classes to the Sport & Gym Center with Tennis and paddle courts. The resort also offers environmental sustainable initiatives such as sessions conducted by our Resident Marine biologist to increase the environment awareness of the ecosystem. On the other hand, the resort offers various spacious family villas and a complimentary Dolphin Kids Club with many daily outdoor and indoor activities.

b)    Couple and Honeymoon

This is a perfect place for biking around the Island with your loved one or having a dive into the blue Indian Ocean with your partner. Couples can dance to the everyday tunes at the Sunset Grill with our in-house DJ performing. Not to forget the romantic dining destination, the couples spa treatments at Emerald Spa and the magnificent sunset at the Sunset Bar accompanied by the finest bubbles, and the peaceful melody of our resident musician from Cuba. 


7.  Up to now, tell us about your favourite moment at Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa

Pre-Openings is always a challenge and an excited job, organising the department as well as building a new team, was definitely one of my favourite moment. Also, another special memory were 4 feedbacks on the resorts' social media accounts in which some guests expressed their gratitude to the team efforts for achieving the best service possible.


8.  Why is the team work, in your department, so important at Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa

In our Front Office Department, we are a family of 35 team members who are highly qualified and with a lot of experience through various hotels and resorts around the world and in the Maldives. Passion is fundamental in exceeding the guests’ expectations and that wouldn't be possible without a great team work. In addition, we are happy to have built one of the best teams, which goes out of the way to create great memories for the guest and by overcoming every obstacle.
